Customer Profile: Lee Gardner of Lee’s Tees

Our relationship with this months’ Customer Profile began in the early days of Huge. In fact, we have invoices in the archives dating back to 1993. But Lee’s odyssey in retail began long before that, with a 600 square foot retail store on the main drag in Jackson, Wyoming circa 1978. A retail customer would walk into his shop, pick a design and a color, Lee would then transfer it on the garment, ring them up on the register, stuff it in a bag and send them on their way. There were not many places to buy souvenir apparel back then; you could even say that Lee invented the tee shirt shop concept way back in the 70′s.

With a motto of “quality, service, and a fun environment”, Lee grew his business with the classic hard work and determination of an earnest entrepreneur. In fact, you’ll see Lee in his stores just about every day in season, running the register and interacting with customers as well as analyzing his sell-through and strategizing the replenishment of his goods. He opened another store adjacent to the tram at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in 1978 as well, and just this summer made another huge jump. After residing in the Broadway Shops for 18 years, Lee decided to close that location and move on an opportunity to not only increase his store visibility, but also to bump his floor space from 3500 to 4000 square feet. “I can’t worry about the competition, or the economy. I’m too busy thinking ahead” is Lee’s answer to a question about the viability of such a move in an ever changing world economy. But Lee has never been afraid to move forward, and it’s obvious he’s not looking back either.
“I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve grown along with a lot of successful, hard working suppliers over the years; and I’m lucky to have them”. But really Lee, it’s all of us that are lucky to have you. Lee typically retails 30-40 Huge designs a season from our apparel and hat lines. Lee also takes advantage of the turnaround time from Huge, placing orders weekly and right down to the piece.

Despite Mother Natures’ feeble attempt at a winter, we still heard quite often from Lee this winter. And moving into summer, actually his bigger season, we are once again looking forward to working with an industry veteran, and a “Stop the BS” guy like him. Thanks Lee for your faith in our designs, service, and sell through!

Blaine Stern Remains “Powerful”

Long time Huge rep Blaine Stern named in Colorado Biz Magazines “10 most powerful sales people”. On behalf of our clients, partners and team at Huge- congratulations on all of your accomplishments. Your continued representation of Huge Brands is greatly appreciated.

Blaine Stern, 52
President Blaine Stern & Associates, Aurora
What he does: Since founding his company 25 years ago, Stern has been responsible for what now generates $1.5 million to $2 million in sales of imprinted sportswear for the resort market. Eighty percent of sales is targeted at the ski industry.
Background: Stern was a competitive skier before starting his business.
In tough times: “Building those long-term relationships is all-important these days. It’s also important to change along with the changing market. Sometimes that entails tweaking the product, or putting more emphasis on service. Our response to turnaround time is high. We’re known for that. It helps give us longevity in this business.”
Words of wisdom: “Believe in your product. Build up a great reputation. Sure, sometimes it’s difficult to keep the enthusiasm going, but you have to work through it. And even when times are difficult, make something happen every day, even if it’s a series of small victories.”

Trace brings 18-years of business experience to Huge. He is best known outside of his entrepreneurship’s as an Olympic freestyle skier who still remains the most decorated male U.S. freestyle skier of all time and was recently inducted into the U.S. Ski Hall of Fame. Trace is also recognized as a prominent sports commentator for network television, which has included the Olympics, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, X-games, and celebrity ski classics.

“I’ve been a fan of Huge for many years and witnessed them grow into an industry leader. The entire team is extremely talented and passionate about evolving designs and manufacturing for their current clients. Additionally, they have the service and resources to become one of the leaders in custom apparel and licensing. It’s all about quality/relevant designs, speed to market, and taking care of customers. I’m flattered to be a new member of the team and look forward to expanding the business and keeping things fresh and progressive” said Worthington.

After building a successful entertainment company (Flying Ace Productions) with long time friend and fellow Olympian, Fuzz Feddersen, Trace’s latest project was working with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard team as Vice President of Fundraising where he was responsible for raising over $5 million in private funds annually for the nation’s top skiers and boarders.

“Not only does Trace have an incredible understanding of the lifestyle and clientele we serve, he has built an amazing brand for himself over the years. Trace is also one of the original investors in huge, so bringing him on board feels as though we are coming full circle. We are excited to bring his knowledge, leadership, and energy into our company as we look at fresh opportunities for growth” said owner and Creative Director, John Bell.

Hello and welcome to the new Huge Brands website.

Founded in Salt Lake City in 1992, Huge Inc. has established itself as a design innovator in the resort industry. With a laid back style and sense of humor inspired by street, surf, skate, ski, and board cultures our approach to apparel driven art has set an industry benchmark. Our design work and influence can be seen in resorts and national parks from Monterey to Maine and from Canada to Bonaire. By fostering a culture of design, adaptability, and integrity we have created opportunities leading to corporate branding for the US Ski and Snowboard Teams, The Utah Museum of Natural History, Sundance Resort, and many more.

Please check out our apparel line section to view our work and services. Thank you for your time and we hope to hear from you soon.
